clear thoughts ( pun intended )

hey all... this is just going to be a little post.

small idea. are all our thoughts clear ? or are most of them confused and without relevance ? if so what should we do ? is it better to make our thoughts clear or clear away all thoughts ? views welcome, debates most welcome....

thanks for reading this :)

thoughts are confusing. but why should that make them irrelevant? all thoughts originate for a reason. Usually based on past actions and experiences or the people who love/hate you. Thoughts shouldnt be thrown out. Because they usually cant be. somehow all of us do think of something that we dont want to more often than something we want to. its sad. but i feel that helps in the long run simply cause you have taken time to reflect on something that is important to you.

Hey... what's really the point of thoughts if they aren't going to be clear ? Are you saying its ok to treat your mind as a dump ? Or a storehouse of all meaningless memorabilia just because they were generated by someone who mattered to you ?

Now not able to clear them is a different issue... that just shows you don't have controlling your own mind.... So trying to cover that up by arguing that " you have taken time to reflect on something that is important to you " isn't really fair...

Thoughts are something generated as a result of mental activity and most of them are half-formed or imperfect and sometimes irrational n irrelevant, but it doesnt really mean that they are useless or there is a necessity to clear them off.

A thought is a belief, opinion, judgement of no certainity. Thoughts help in reasoning and deciding at a particular situation and the experience obtained adds up to the intellect. This is how thoughts change rather develop. No newly formed thought is generally clear. Thoughts slowly develop and attain clarity.

So, personally i dont think we are dumping our mind, it is just that we think and reason out, and thereby refine our thoughts. I do not deny that this thinking can be biased and can lead to improper judgement, but hey those are your thoughts and you are responsible for them.

I agree... thoughts have to be made clear... that's one of the options provided in the post, actually...

But i disagree with this : "A thought is a belief, opinion, judgement of no certainity." Personally, thoughts can lack clarity, but never should they lack certainty... cuz then they'd be vague, faint half-thoughts...if a person is so vague as to take an hour to decide if he wants to drink water, would u call him thoughtful ? a thought is a thought only if it leads to something... if it's certain...

and it is because they are our thoughts and we are responsible for them that they've got to be certain... because we think and therefore we are.............

I think the way in which I stated it is sort of misleading.
I meant : A thought can also be a personal belief, opinion or judgement that generally lacks proof or certainty.

Let me explain:
1. "what are your thoughts on the nuclear deal?"
2. "my opinion differs from yours"

Thoughts which do not fall into the above stated category are bound to be certain considering "We think (focus our attention on a definite state and purpose) and hence the certainty".

"a thought is a thought only if it leads to something... if it's certain..." Do you mean to say every thought has a purpose? If yes, then where is the necessity to CLEAR THOUGHTS ?

Precisely :) that's the conundrum... thoughts SHOULD make sense and when they don't, they've got to be thought about more until they become clear and if that's not possible, you should clear that thread away.... that's kinda my point...

hmmm... sounds good, but hey that aint practical... Clearing a thread away is hardly possible, as thoughts are generally inter-related and no thought originates without a reason, so basically my point is every thought attains clarity at some point of time... I do not mean to say you've got to think and think for all eternity about something overloading your mind, so we basically overlook it with the hope that clearing it [both ways ;) ] will be possible at some point of time.

shouldn't each of us be strong enough to at least " clear " our own thoughts ?

aren't we deviating a bit here.. clearing a thought off is not about strength, its more about the importance you give to the fact whether you are able to keep it going till the end until it attains clarity, or just throw it away treating it as a waste, which might be of use someday......you never know, do you.... ???

one more point:: we have something called a subconscious mind, which keeps thinking about something or the other, of which we seldom have control.. when you are not able to control the course of your thoughts( thinking is multidimensional) then i think its pointless in attempting to clear them... but... if a person is very keen in doing so, then i think he/she should attain a state where he/she can control almost all the actions of his/her mind.. i just think it is one's personal interest whether or not one wants to do it :)
